Mini review: transitional and lacked the intensity of book one

I really loved Broken Beauty, the first novella in this series; enough to buy book two. I enjoyed Broken World but it felt transitional to me, and lacked the can't-possibly-put-this-down intensity of book one. I think that this series is powerful and very well-written. I admire Adams for addressing the subject of rape, and most importantly its aftermath. I'm definitely going to keep reading this series.

Absolutely compelling book I felt Mia's Story on so many levels

I hoped for Mia to have some peace in this book, but her story is so real and raw. Broken World was so touching and emotional because you go from Mia's trauma to her trying to cope. I love the way the story displays how there is no "just bouncing back" from being sexually assaulted. Mia showed us how those demons come for you every day and how sometimes they best you. I was so in the moment with Broken World and hurt with Mia because she was surrounded by people but so alone and I understood her feelings. I found myself wishing I could give her some of my courage and strength or even just to be there for her. Thank you Lizzy for putting a great character's voice on a strong subject and making it so that other peoples story may be heard through Mia's.

heartbreaking moments of a girl finding the strenge to be a new young woman

I found the beauty in this story to be the honesty in the struggles and pain of the main character. Carrying such a burden of tape is a life changing event… to then carry the burden of publicity, political charged focus, lacking a solid family support system and pregnancy.... it is a truly emotional time and I give the author credit for not missing a beat of the emotional roller coaster.

There is also an extreme number of foreshadowing events towards the next book. Which I'm sure will drive me crazy for the next two months or more.

I did find something lacking in how the actual dealing with the pregnancy was written ... at times it feels cold. And detatched and at no other point does the book read that way.

About the Author
Rhona Flin (BSc, PhD Psychology) is Professor of Applied Psychology in the School of Psychology at the University of Aberdeen, UK. She is a Chartered Psychologist, a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. Paul O'Connor (BSc, MSc, PhD Psychology) has carried out human factors research in a number of high risk industries and the military. Margaret Crichton (MA, MSc, PhD Psychology) is a Chartered Psychologist and founder of People Factor Consultants Ltd. She has published in both academic and industry journals.

Getting technical about non-technical skills

Following the introduction, the book is structured around chapters on 7 'non-technical' (i.e. human factors related) skills. These are: situational awareness, decision making, communications, team working, leadership, managing stress and coping with fatigue. There are then 3 more general chapters on identifying, training and assessing non-technical skills. The examples used are mostly from aviation, offshore and surgery. There are extensive bibliographies after each chapter. While covering some complex subjects the writing style is very accessible.

Good choice!

I am a pediatric nurse, RN working in a busy outpatient department. I am also a Pediatric instructor at City College of San Francisco. I found this book to be a great and quick reference. The book is divided into sections by systems which I find to be helpful. The pictures are great and they have boxes that will highlight key points and pediatric pearls; which highlight key physical findings and techniques to improve pediatric exams. I like that the book is spiral bound. It makes it easy to read as it lies flat on a table or you could fold it back. I've used the photo's to show a new mother the anatomy of the skull of the newborn. She had questions about her baby's fontanels. I would highly recommend this book! DMG RN MSN IBCLC

The best pediatric physical exam textbook you will find

I am in my second year of a MSN-FNP program ready to begin my pediatric clinicals. After reading these reviews I knew I needed to purchase this book; I am very happy that I did. This is far and away the BEST book you will find on pediatric physical examinations out there. It is so thorough!

It is full of color photographs and drawings showing procedural steps and physical images in detail (very helpful so you may be more comfortable with a procedure or anomaly before you are approached with one in front of your preceptor).

Things like normal variations and abnormal findings are all given in tables so they are easy to find. Charting tips are offered for every section. I especially like how well the musculoskeletal and neurological sections are covered as these assessments have many specific examinations (each are offered, again with pictures). For example, the examination of the newborn hip is shown with pictures - observing for Ortolani's sign, Barlow's test, and symmetry (all shown with detailed pictures). Each body section is really covered well, it is difficult to pick out one or two. I suggest you click on the "look inside" to skip around the book for a few moments before you purchase it. I'm sure you will find it covers every area in detail. Just peek at the pictures in the skin section.

I just cannot get over how fantastic this book is. The size is perfect, you can carry it with you to clinicals (not too heavy and not too big) 6" x 9" and about 1" thick and spiral bound so it stays open to where you want it. It also has the fold over tab on the back cover so it has the built-in bookmark (a bonus!).

I highly recommend this to anyone who works with pediatric patients. Truly a fabulous find. I don't know why my school doesn't require this book. It is far better than the textbooks they do require.

The reason I purchased this book was because it was one of the last books Kenneth E. Hagin wrote and because it was the last of eight visitations from Jesus he had. I believe Rev. Hagin was one of the most, if not the most prominent prophets in the world in the last 50 to 75 years and this book had to do with what the Lord Jesus deemed the most important things He wanted the Church, the Body of Christ to know before His return and before the "home-going" of Rev.Hagin in 2003. The book is most excellent, as I knew it would be. It is a must read to those who want to draw closer to Jesus, to be more conformed to Him and be more closely related to others in the Body of Christ. P.L.

As with Hagin's other books, this one is anointed, easy to read, and full of revelation from God's Word. The book came, as described, in very good condition, with no tears or markings, even though it was lightly used.

An incredible tribute to the Horror-Mood!!

For my money the late 60's/1970's were quite easily the "second Golden Age" of the horror genre in regards comics & magazines. As much as I absolutely loved the Warren mags, the Skywald line deserves equal recognition which often times simply isn't the case. In some ways I think I may even prefer the latter as they were a bit more extreme in the violence/gore dept. The fact that this book even got written/published in the first place, so many years after the fact, is worth at least four stars alone! Luckily the book is also entertainingly written, with many great pix of the "Horror-Mood" creators/bullpen.One very minor quibble: I would have really appreciated an all color,full page per issue gallery of all those FANTASTIC covers.You do get a representation printed on the inner sides of the covers but those images are very,very small about the size of a postage stamp.

It is obvious this work is a true labor of love. And hopefully this book will inspire a whole new generation of folks to hunt down and obtain these gems. I personally am very grateful to all involved in publishing this great book!

A Fantastic, Thorough Compilation!!

This book is fabulous. It is lovingly compiled, and marvelously detailed. If you grew up with Skywald, or are just getting into them - this book is very, very thorough, and delivers exactly as it promises. It is an overview of the Skywald history, with several stories placed throughout - giving insight into not only the history, but of the various writers and artists who contributed to the Skywald titles in the early-to-mid Seventies. A must companion to the Skywald horror-mood comics collector - - and a must for anyone who may not be familiar with Skywald, and just interested in comics and horror history. The presentation is very professional - it's a great-looking book. This has my very highest recommendation - it's a total payoff for your investment!! A+
