About the Author
John Michael Talbot is an award-winning Christian musician, writer, television presenter, motivational speaker and itinerant minister to churches and parishes around the world. An early pioneer of contemporary Christian music, Talbot grew up performing in a country-rock band with his brother Terry before embarking on a spiritual journey that led him through Native American religion and Buddhism to Christianity. At this point he and Terry joined the Jesus Movement, recording the album Reborn on the Sparrow record label. He is now recognized as Catholic music's most popular artist with over fifty albums and four million copies sold. His songs are published in hymnals throughout the world. A member of the Jesus Movement in the early 1970s, Talbot converted to Roman Catholicism in 1978 after immersing himself in the life and teaching of St. Francis of Assisi. He then founded his own community, the Brothers and Sisters of Charity, at Little Portion Hermitage as an "integrated monastic community" with celibate brothers and sisters, singles, and families. Talbot is also the author of numerous books bringing the Christian monastic tradition to contemporary life, including The Jesus Prayer, Blessings of St. Benedict, The Way Of The Mystics: Ancient Wisdom For Experiencing God Today and The Music of Creation: Foundations of a Christian Life.

Inspiring meditation
By Clint Walker
When I was growing up, John Michael Talbot was a CCM artist. Of Methodist background I believe. Then, at some point, he converted to Catholicism. He has since went on to continue developing music, albeit with a little lower profile, and to develop a community called the Brothers and Sisters of Charity. In recent years, he has been using his gifts in communication to write books that challenge people to understand the spiritual journey in a thoughtful, contemplative, and yet contemporary way.

Talbot's latest book (which is reworked from an older version of the same text) is entitled The Master Musician: Meditations on Jesus. The book is a simple description of one's journey with Christ in three phases, guided by the metaphor of musicianship. Talbot says in the introduction:
"This work is divided into three main sections: God's grace, our human response, and life in the church. The first is liked unto the crafting of a fine guitar by a Master Musician. The second, unto learning how to play under the Master's instruction. The third, unto learning how to play with others in the symphony orchestra or band."
I found this book educational, thought-provoking and spiritually nourishing. I learned a lot about the development of musicians, and how that process parallels the spiritual birth and growth of individuals. Particularly intriguing in this sequence to me was the movement from a "personal" relationship with Jesus, which is essential, to a relationship with God within the context of a community, and how the later step is the next step in spiritual maturity. This left a lot for me to consider in leading others to faith and to maturity in Christ as a pastor.

I recommend this book for people who are charged with helping believers grow, and especially for musicians and music teams which will be challenged in unique ways to help their teams grow in their faith.

Permanent Present Tense: The Man with No Memory, and What He Taught the World, by Suzanne Corkin

Permanent Present Tense tells the incredible story of Henry Gustav Molaison, known only as H. M. until his death in 2008. In 1953, at the age of twenty-seven, Molaison underwent a dangerous "psychosurgical"procedure intended to alleviate his debilitating epilepsy. The surgery went horribly wrong, and when Molaison awoke he was unable to store new experiences. For the rest of his life, he would be trapped in the moment. But Molaison's tragedy would prove a gift to humanity. The amazing specificity of his impairment shed new light on the functions and structures of the human brain, revolutionizing neuroscience. Today, the case of H. M. stands as one of the most consequential and widely referenced in this fast-expanding field. Renowned neuroscientist Suzanne Corkin worked with Molaison for nearly five decades. In Permanent Present Tense, she tells the full story of his life and legacy, leading her reader to the cutting edge of neuroscience with great clarity, sensitivity, and grace.

Review
London Review of Books
“Corkin's lucid, well-organised telling of Henry's story merges intimate case history with an account of the current scientific understanding and how it was reached.”

The Nation
“A scientifically exciting and personally moving portrait of a man whose life and brain ended up being devoted to the science of memory.”

The Independent
“Her warm, engaging book explains the science in a way accessible to scientists and laypeople alike.”

The Scientist
“A scientific and human monument, touching in its regard for the man (he had a sense of humor, as does she) and breathtaking in its detailed account of the discoveries about the localization and coordination of different aspects of memory made possible by refinements in brain-scanning technology and by Molaison's untiring cooperation.”

Times Higher Education Supplement
“Corkin offers a comprehensive and engaging review of how the field of neuroscience came to learn what we know about memory, all woven into the touching biography of one man…Above all else, the book is a tribute to one man and his contribution to science…We can only hope that future patients are as generous and good-natured, and the researchers studying them as talented as Corkin.”

Wall Street Journal
“A remarkable blend of biography, memoir and scientific history.... ‘Permanent Present Tense' stands as the definitive story of Molaison. Ms. Corkin's narrative is rich with tales of his life, from his happy childhood to his painful decline in later years.... A great book.”

Newsweek
"A surprisingly emotional read. From its historical survey of the 20th-century psychosurgery movement—the most grisly episodes of which involved the now-infamous prefrontal lobotomy—to its somewhat procedural recounting of Molaison's final days, the book repeatedly challenges the reader to decide how one should judge the checkered history of brain research and, in particular, the unique case of Molaison.”

Washington Post
“Corkin expertly uses Henry's case to illuminate major trends in memory research.”

The Guardian
“In her new book, Corkin pays tribute to a much-missed friend, as well as offering lucid accounts of the neuropsychological discoveries he made possible.... This fine and moving book reveals as much about the limitations of neuropsychology as about the scope of human memory”

The Guardian Weekly
"Corkin has written a compelling memoir of that bond between scientist and subject, Permanent Present Tense, a relationship that Henry once described neatly: "It's a funny thing — you just live and learn. I'm living and you're learning.”

Nature
“Corkin, who worked with HM for half a century, has now written Permanent Present Tense. She has woven her memories of her experimental and personal dealings with HM into a panoramic history of the past 60 years of the neuropsychology of memory. The result is superb. Because she was such an integral part of this history, Permanent Present Tense is also her intellectual autobiography.”

PsycCRITIQUES
“All readers, however, will be struck by the impact of case H. M. on medicine, psychology, and neuroscience, and they will be fascinated by Henry, the man behind the initials.”

Library Journal
“Corkin's supportive and sympathetic relationship with Molaison humanizes her clearly expressed…accounts of research on brain functions and anatomy.”

Kirkus Reviews
"Both a compassionate biography and a lucid account of the advances in neuroscience made possible through one man's personal tragedy."

Daniel L. Schacter, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of Psychology, Harvard University, and author of The Seven Sins of Memory: How the Mind Forgets and Remembers
“The amnesic patient H.M. is arguably the most important case in the history of neuropsychology. Nobody knew him better than Suzanne Corkin, who has written an engaging and insightful account of H.M.'s memory loss that combines personal stories with accessible discussions of memory research. Just as important, Permanent Present Tense presents a sympathetic portrait of the person named Henry Molaison.”

Science
“A touching yet unsentimental glimpse of [Corkin's] 46-year connection to this ‘pleasant, engaging, docile man' and his tragedy, interests, and experience of everyday life. At the same time, Corkin skillfully uses stories about his experiences and capabilities to illustrate some of the scientific principles underlying memory. She also offers a comprehensible historical sketch of the study of memory and the burgeoning field of neuroscience—from the dubious and gruesome practice of prefrontal lobotomy to the development of powerful brainimaging techniques.... Sadly, Molaison's condition prevented him from ever fully grasping the importance of his contributions to science and humanity. Corkin's compelling account in Permanent Present Tense should help ensure that he will remain an unforgettable figure in the continuing saga of our quest to understand the workings of the mind.”

Maclean's
"[A] gripping book.... No one was better suited to be [H.M.'s] memoirist than Corkin."

Science News
“Part memoir, part scientific history, Corkin's book weaves together tales of working with Molaison and a vivid backstory on the scientific approach, taking readers through 60-plus years of memory research.”

Steven Pinker, Harvard College Professor of Psychology, Harvard University, and author of How the Mind Works and The Stuff of Thought
“A fascinating account of perhaps the most important case study in the history of neuroscience, rich with implications for our understanding of the brain, our experience, and what it means to be human.”

Howard Gardner, author of Multiple Intelligences
“Drawing on her unique investigations over more than four decades, neuroscientist Suzanne Corkin relates the fascinating story of how one severely amnesic man transformed our understanding of mind, brain, and memory.”

Philip A. Sharp, Institute Professor, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
“Suzanne Corkin has written an enjoyable and sensitive story of H.M.'s life and what it has taught us about memory. Millions of patients have been the source of advances in science but few are celebrated as individuals. We learn through H.M. that ‘Our brains are like hotels with eclectic arrays of guests—homes to different kinds of memory, each of which occupies its own suite of rooms.'”

Good read for subject, but highly technical
By R. Bennett
I have read about amnesia patient H.B. (Henry Molaison) for a long time and was very interested when the psychologist who was able to work with him for over 4 decades would be writing a biography of him. I have cognitive memory issues of my own and though if I could read about how he compensated for his missing memory to live to over 80 years-old, it could be beneficial to my own understanding of memory. While the author Corkin did include many human elements in describing the long and well-researched life of H.B. after his brain surgery left him with permanent amnesia, she is a professor and writes at a level that her college and graduate students would read at including many medical and neuropsychological terms that were a little hard to understand even though I am a college graduate and have had some experience in grad school. I think this book is written more for the memory researcher or psychoanalyst who wants more information about the most famous and well-studied brain in the world up to the present time and so much for the general layperson with a casual interest who might find the story of H.B.'s life interesting and compelling for the human elements. I would recommend this book for anyone looking to increase their understanding of memory and what regions of the brain do what for different cognitive processes in a semi-professional way, but it will be a fairly hard read for anyone who is not really into the subject and committed to working through the professional lingo peppered throughout the book.

Truly memorable - a must read for all students of memory research
By The Explorer
This is a truly remarkable book about the most famous patient in neuroscience - Patient H.M. - written by his bona-fide scientific guardian Dr. Suzanne Corkin . All students of Neuroscience know about H.M. and his anterograde amnesia due to the surgical removal of his hippocampi, but there are much more fascinating details to be learned!

For example, did you know that H.M.'s amygdala were also completely removed? That he could still express a full range of emotions without the amygdala, but he had deficits in judging internal states such as hunger, thirst, and pain? Did you know that H.M. also suffered retrograde amnesia that extended backwards to almost 15 years before the surgery? H.M. was sometimes able to learn and remember certain information after his surgery, which surprised Dr. Corkin and prompted her to conduct further experiments to find out the causes. Dr. Corkin's research investigated not only the declarative memory deficits of H.M., but probed the emotion, sleep, motor skills, priming effects, and various other intricacies of learning and memory. In the book, Dr. Corkin goes into comprehensive details of her experiments, complete with the rationale and the scientific background for her experimental designs. One can learn a tremendous amount about memory research and neuroscience in general just by reading this book.

Overall, this is a fascinating read. The narrative is well-written and engaging; I read the whole book cover-to-cover at once. My only minor criticisms are that 1) there could be better graphs and diagrams, and I'd appreciate more high-quality photos of the main star, Henry Molaison; and 2) names of collaborating researchers and scientists are selectively mentioned or omitted, it would be better to either mention all the names (instead of eg. a researcher at UCSD) or at least cite the names in the footnotes to give proper credit/recognition. Otherwise, this is a fascinating account of the memorable life of H.M. and of the remarkable achievements of Dr. Corkin and her colleagues!

"The man behind the initials, and a life behind the data"
By Umer Vakil
It isn't often that you can tell the history of a field through the history of one man. But H.M could claim that honor for memory neuroscience. After going through a bilateral medial temporal-lobe resection to cure his petit mal seizures from childhood epilepsy - H.M was unable to form any new long-term memories. He specifically lacked declarative memory, memories where people can openly state what they have learned. He lost his temporal lobe, the right temporal lobe processes visual-spatial info and the right verbal info - with neural bridges providing each other with information. Anyone who has taken a course in memory will now recognize an entire world behind a simple textbook case-study mentioned in a chapter. We're privileged to have this book - but what about F.C, P.B, K.F, N.B and P.Z ? Who knows if someone will do them justice by documenting the real lives behind the case study.

We know so many things about memory and about being human, how it determines our self and identity, how relationships depend on common memories - but all this abstract pondering comes to life when you look at a real-life case and how someone copes in the light of losing his humanity. It also sheds light into the recklessness of medicine during the height of psychosurgery, and how the discrete/modular view of the neural underpinnings of certain abnormalities resulted in scientists feeling that certain brain areas could be removed to cure so and so problem. The worst-case scenario can be seen when Walter Freeman operated twenty-five women a day. What is slightly disturbing is that the baton has now been passed to pharmacology, and misdiagnoses and overmedicating are simply modern-day examples of similar medical irresponsibility.

H.M was really useful because he didn't suffer from any psychiatric disorder and his amnesia didn't affect cognitive performance on non-memory task - so experimental data could be isolated as the causal result of amnesia. The beauty of the Henry Molaisson was that his case revolved around so many important topics, such as the acquisition of episodic (events in certain time and place) and semantic (meanings) knowledge. For example, it was via such cases that we saw that the hippocampus is responsible for word associations.

This book is very academic, and is primarily for those that have done their studies in the cognitive scientists. A regular reader wouldn't know what to make of the information or the larger picture behind the mentioned science. If you were expecting a biography, the chapter "Henry's Universe" is probably all you'll get. Its hard to write about the "most comprehensively studied patient in neuroscience" without introducing one to the history of the field and how it developed as H.M. aged.

Rereadable and endlessly engrossing, can be read as a history of memory neuroscience. It tells you about the ecstasy when you find an opportunity for scientific discovery, perfectly captured by the hurried attempt to image the Henry's brain after he died to get a clear picture of his brain. The history of science owes this book a lot!

OH DEAR! WHY ME?
By Salli
Someone on The Official Doors Website just asked me about the following quote which appears in Jacqueline Murray's forward of her book "Two Brothers."

The author claims Jim said the following: "The other person I wish to mention, that I have great admiration for is Salli Stevenson. I didn't know her well and it was purely platonic, but she is one of the rare ones who understood me. She was absolutely one of the smartest women I ever met. Salli, can explain me better than most."

After I stopped laughing because I know Jim would never say this, I became angry that Jacqueline Murray would use my name to validate her work without even asking me.

I interviewed Jim Morrison for Circus Magazine in October 1970. We became friends. The last time I spoke to him was in March 1971. Jim knew me very well. I knew him as well as Jim would let me. One of the things about being friends is sharing your lives, things that happened to you, your memories, feelings, ideas, hopes, dreams and nightmares. Jim and I were no different. We shared a lot with each other.

Jim almost never called me Salli. He liked my real name instead. He used my real name 99% of the time. You'd think if Jim really did talk to a medium and mention me, he'd want me to know it was really him, so he'd use the name he liked when he was alive instead of "Salli" to let me know it was really him, wouldn't you?

Obviously Jacqueline Murray didn't know any of this when she quoted "Jim Morrison" about me.

When I first heard of Murray, I checked her blog out. Everything I read about Jim, everything she had "Jim" saying, on her blog was readily available elsewhere. This was two years ago. I contacted one of the other psychics who promoted Murray on Murray's blog, so that I could check Murray out. I was told Murray was still so new in her mediumistic gift that she wasn't able to talk to anyone other than a few close friends. I persisted, got three email addresses and emailed her. Two of the addresses were unable to be delivered. Murray never responded to the one that was delivered. Instead she used my name to make this book seem more than what it is, a research project that uses a fictionalized character of a beyond the grave Jim to tell the story.

Murray has simply done what other authors who never met Jim have done. She has gathered her information from other books, magazines and interviews on The Doors and then given it a unique little twist, a "dead Jim" talking. Unfortunately some of what she attributes to Jim is inaccurate, just like what she said in the forward about the two of us.

Other authors have done a better and more accurate job. I'm also posting this review over on The Doors Board, just in case anyone wants to verify that I wrote this. - Salli Stevenson

Don't waist your time!

The worst book I have ever read about Morrison! Same old stories, only this time told through a psychic. Don't waist your money.

It's total B.S! Don't waste your time.
By J.O
This book is a complete scam! I have read the Michael Hutchence section of the book. Don't waste your money. It's published by AuthorHouse, this is a self-published work. Obviously no reputable publisher would touch it. I am totally open to the possibility of an afterlife or spirit world and that psychic phenomena does exist. I also don't mind a good biography. Why did I buy the book? Because I thought it might be a half decent holiday read. Don't buy this book.

I have been unable to find ANY information at all about the author except where to buy the book, which unfortunately is available in multiple places online. There's no picture of her, no website, no explanation about her amazing gift or how this world class psychic has managed to channel Jim Morrison, Michael Hutchence, Jimi Hendrix and Kurt Cobain. Need any more alarm bells? I even contacted a collegue of her's who endorsed the book and he said he hasn't heard a word from her in 3 years. So the Author seems to have dropped off the face of the earth? How convenient.

It's very difficult to enjoy something that you're always questioning. The information `he' gives her is repetitive. She basically reiterates all the speculation that's already been printed about him. She paraphrased practically verbatim a paragraph from an INXS Documentary that their tour manager had said about him and put it in `his' words. `He' uses words an Australian would just never say like `hiney' and `jerk'. The list goes on. It's all absolute bull.

Quite a few psychics endorsed the book. I'm not saying all psychics are charlottens. These other people who had a few pages in the book gave a lot more of a coherent account than she did. But then they're not releasing 700 page books of channeled material from dead celebrities. She goes off on tangents repeatedly about how "he" would only use one channel (her) because she's so pure of heart and intention, how appalled spirits in the afterlife are by people who do mislead others by lying about connecting to spirit. How much more manipulative to the reader can you get. She writes quotes from The Bible, talking about the Kabbalah, trying to prove channeling is possible - all supposedly channelled directly from Michael. It's full on rammed down your throat. It gets really weird and a bit scary. Maybe these are things she believes are real and has researched herself, if that's the case then fine. Write a book about that. But using Michael Hutchence's readership to tell the world about it supposedly from his beautiful spirit. Really? Come on!

All I can say is she did her homework. I didn't know he had his own fragrance, was close fiends with Dodi Al Fayed, had his teeth fixed (still not sure about that one), was forgetting his lyrics on the last US tour, was a Doors fan - still don't think this is true, was a really good swimmer, recorded a Christmas song as a young boy. Of course all these things can be found and verified online.

Don't remember Michael Hutchence this way. It breaks my heart as to what this must do to his family. A Tale it certainly is. Pure fiction not fact. I wouldn't be surprised if she wrote all these five star reviews herself. I hope this review has saved you $35.

About the Author

John always tells people that he feels like computers picked him, and not the other way around. While in grade school he walked into a Radio Shack, got his first look of a TRS-80 and fell in love. From that point on, computers and programming was the main focus in his life. All he could afford was the manual, so that's what he bought and started learning about programming. He has stayed with that model of learning about new technologies by getting a good book and learning about a new topic. He’s been programming computers for about 20 years now, starting as a Customer Support Rep, getting his first programming job and working his way up. When the Internet got popular, he jumped onto that as the Next Big Thing and his career built on that for over 10 years. A couple years ago when a similar phenomenon was happening in Mobile, he again took to the books and started building his own mobile apps and immersing myself in all things mobile. He has apps in Apple's App Store and the Android Marketplace, some of which were done with Titanium.

Needs structural and editorial help
By Eric
Pros : Concise
Cons : Too many errors, Difficult to understand, Too basic, Not comprehensive enough
Best Uses : Novice
Describe Yourself : Designer, Maker, Developer

I was happy to see a title about Appcelerator Titanium. I realize this book represents a significant effort by its author and editor, but I don't think it's up to O'Reilly's high standards. Even if all of the careless typographical and stylistic errors were fixed, there are still structural problems that make it a confusing and frustrating guide to an already complex framework.

From cover to cover, here's a sampling of errors, omissions, and structural issues:

- Long-winded and off-topic pablum about hardware configurations. These might be relevant to novice computer users, but developers likely have this stuff figured out or have opinions of their own. An example:
"And the importance of memory is as true as ever. Additional memory for Mac or Windows will help speed up things. I expanded my MacBook Pro with memory bought from Amazon and it worked fine. Don't think that low-cost memory is cheap or will not work." (p 15.)

- Sloppy editing. (e.g. "When you run the installer, it's a good idea not to change any of the defaults. It's a good idea not to change any of the defaults." on page 17.)

- The notion of using an object as a namespace is introduced without explanation. (app = {...}, first seen on page 21.) Some examples use it, some don't. It probably deserves a quick explanation since it's a best practice in Titanium apps. At the very least, a promise that namespaces will be discussed in chapter 7 would help the reader.

- Syntax highlighting errors in the PDF (e.g. page 37 and 38)

- The version of the Titanium SDK covered -- 1.8.1 -- is long over a year old. This is particularly problematic in the API reference chapter.

- Inconsistent styling in code samples. JavaScript allows a great deal of flexibility, but using arbitrary code style sets a poor example. (Example from the text include single vs. double quotes around strings, use of var when instantiating variables, semicolons, "e" vs. "evt" callback parameter names, inconsistent spacing around colons, etc.)

- More typos: "Once you have a handle on the event that fired the event, you can generally find out what you need." Presumably should read: "Once you have a handle on the object that fired the event..."

- Bizarre (il)logical thought progressions. For example, on page 49:
"The TableViewRow is a very useful item. When I first started working with them, I thought they were a nice way to display data in rows, but not incredibly flexible. There are a few attributes you can set to show a left image, right image, caption, and a hasChild indicator. This will cause an indicator to be displayed on the right of the row to show there is more content, like a chevron arrow in iOS."

The "when I first started" bit of the sentence primes the reader for some kind of "and then I found out..." revelation in the next sentence or two. It never comes.

- Needless and vague editorial asides. On page 50, for example:
"As you can see, the aspect ratio for the Android tablets is much "taller" than that of the iPad. I think this reflects Apple's ability to know what's best for the user and to build it even if it costs more. In the end, users appreciate the better user experience, and will pay for it. Since Android tablets and phones use more "off-the-shelf " components, the resolutions and aspect ratios might not be optimal for a great user experience."

This *might* have been worth the ink if accompanied by some discussion on measurable implications of different screen aspect ratios on UX. Also, filler clichs like "As you can see" and "In the end" aren't necessary.

- Framework conventions are introduced with zero fanfare or explanation in unrelated example code. For example, the "exitOnClose" and "layout" parameters make their debut in a picker control example in the with no explanation. (The layout parameter is briefly discussed in a later chapter, but upon first use an acnowledgement that the reader hasn't missed something and that these aspects of the API will be covered later.)

- It looks like some content intended for chapter 5 didn't make it in. A summarizing graph on page 54 claims that the reader learned "how to add things to a standard control (a TableViewRow, in this case) to create a customized look". In fact, there's no sample code or example involving TableViewRow up to this point in chapter 5.

- View parents / children and the display hierarchy are never introduced, so figuring out what the reference to .parent means on page 56 is an exercise for the reader. These are details of the Titanium API that deserve at least a paragraph for those uninitiated with the display list pattern. (View-as-container is never introduced. Maybe it could be introduced when oft-nested objects like TableViewRow are first mentioned earlier in the chapter? Or push the "Window and View Objects" section up?)

- Figure 6-9 doesn't accurately reflect the output from the example code on page 86. The window background in the figure should be white, not gray.

- The author champions fiddling with the prototype chain in the introduction to chapter 7 on page 93: "Prototypes are a very cool feature of JavaScript and should be exploited profusely." Despite this endorsement, he never offers an example of using this feature in the context of the Titanium API (or why this might be a bad idea), and instead the rest of the chapter shows how to customize Titanium objects by creating proxy objects rather than messing with prototypes. Prototyping is never mentioned again.

- The "saying" quoted on page 94 is incorrect and conveys the opposite of the intended meaning: The author quotes "If you don't know where you're going, you'll probably get there." He probably meant to cite Yogi Berra's aphorism: "If you don't know where you're going, you might not get there."

- In the example code on page 96, "TiCL.Util = {};" should probably read TiCL.Utils = {};" to follow the author's advice about mirroring the Titanium namespaces. (Indeed on the next page the author references a TiCL.Utils namespace.)

- More sloppy editing on Page 97: "...but requiring three different parameter names" should read "...but require three different parameter names."

- Chapter 9 (Distribution Methods) spends a lot of ink on iOS B2B and enterprise distribution, something a tiny fraction of developers are actually going to do and bears little relation to Titanium's influence on the release build / store approval / distribution process.

- Typo on page 127: "if your phone or table supports it" should read "if your phone or tablet supports it".

- The author completely ignores many cornerstone technologies in the Titanium stack, such as JSS, Alloy, CommonJS, etc.

I learned a handful of useful things from this text, but major questions I started with about the structure of the API and best practices remained unanswered.

Waste of Time and Money
By Christopher M Golding
I am a native iOS developer looking into making the move to one of the cross platform frameworks. Appcelerator looks to be the best to transition to, so I was looking for a book to help in the move. This book isn't it! This book is a very high level look at Appcelerator's platform, has some code examples, but nothing truly helpful that you couldn't have gotten from Appcelerator's website.

This book showed me some of the key parts of Ttianium. Before I read the book I wasn't sure how Titanium differed from things like PhoneGap and now I see how using native controls is a big difference. It also shows how to make it easier to deal with iOS and Android differences. Seeing how to use modules is also a huge timesaver. Helpful to see how I can leverage my JavaScript skills towards Titanium project. All in all, well worth the time spent reading it.

Two Black Widow stories
By danny boy
The two stories here feature the rivalry between Natasha Romanov (original BW) versus young BW wannabee Yelena Belova.
Naturally Natasha always wins hands down. This is very much in the tradition of cold war spy versus spy and the plots always feature Nick Fury in his oedipal-like role overseeing Natasha.

The drawings for the first story are terrific - not so with the second story which features a wash technique which does not seem as suited for this genre.
