About the Author
Henry Kaufman (PhD, New York University) is President of Henry Kaufman & Company, Inc., an economic and financial consulting firm established in 1988. He previously served as head of research and in the senior management of Salomon Brothers, and worked at The Federal Reserve Bank of New York and in commercial banking. Invited to speak before many leading economic and finance organizations around the world, Dr. Kaufman was three times designated one of the thirty most influential Americans by U.S. News & World Report. In 2001, the National Association of Business Economics conferred on him its prestigious Adam Smith Award.

Interesting with a Couple of Annoyances

Interesting book. Dr. Kaufman gives a decent history of the markets during his career,
One area I wish he would have elaborated more on was his discussion on the importance of studying financial history. He wrote that it was important, but really didn't say HOW or WHAT to study. I found that disappointing.
One other area that disappointed me was the fact that I paid over $16 (it's even more expensive now) for the Kindle version of this book and it was full of annoying errors (spaces before commas, etc.). For a publishing company to charge this much for a book, I don't think it's expecting too much for it to be formatted properly.

The single best volume on unlearned lessons from the Great Recession.

Short and to the point. If you only read one book about the Great Recession and why you should be worried today, this is it. The 8000 pages of Dodd-Frank did not reinstate Glass-Steagall and Too Big To Fail is a bigger problem today than before the financial crisis. A pithy gem of a book. I often discuss the Great Depression with someone who lived through it A quarter of the families on his block were out of work and struggled to survive. Too Big To Fail could wind the clock back 90 years.

Although we are learning more abut the murky, often mysterious world of the Fed, it's rare to get such a candid look at the players and astute analysis of today's market problems as we get from the latest book by Dr. Kaufman. He spares no one, including himself, from a rigorous assessment of what has been done wrong and why. Best of all, he offers some suggestions on how to avoid past mistakes.
