A wonderful jazz message !

John Ramsay is a drummer, recording artist, author, educator and a famous clinician ; John is featured with the Art Blakey and The Jazz Messengers Big Band so he knows perfectly the great Art's drumming ; In addition to these recordings, John has been heavily involved in teaching at The Berklee College of Music in Boston where he has taught for the past twelve years. The book is divided in several parts : 1) - Timekeeping Licks : Coordination / Syncopation ; In this section, drummers will gain insight into how one of the greatest drummers kept time behind the soloists he accompanied ; It is also important to consult the recordings listed for all the examples to get the subtleties and nuances that are more difficult to notate. 2) - Timekeeping Transcriptions : In this section, drummers will be able to see and hear longer examples of Art's timekeeping style ; There are transcriptions from 1947 ( "Humph" ) to 1981 ( "Cheryl" ) so you can hear how Art's style grew and evolved over the years. 3) - Solo Licks : It is a catalogue of figures to be added to the drummer's vocabulary of solo ideas. 4) - Solo Transcriptions : The author strongly suggestes to consult the recordings. 5) - Heads : This are especially pocket notebooks the author kept during his tenure as road manager with Art Blakey and various editions of Jazz Messengers from 1980 to 1982. 6) - Interviews : A great deal of love and admiration for Art. - This book is wonderful, we all miss Art who love to swing and helped others to swing, living jazz music with intensity, unique, inimitable ... John Ramsay is a hero for getting the correct information from Maestro Blakey himself. John is one of the few true afficianados that is honestly able to pass down the Message of Art Blakey. This book and CD is a must have especially for all jazz drummers and for all jazz musicians as well. In my estimation, "Jazz Messages," gives you a true glimpse into the essence of Blakey and what it was like for his sidemen to be propelled by one of the most creative forces in music ever.
