Gr 10 Up—This follow-up to A Thousand Pieces of You (HarperCollins, 2014) blends elements of science fiction, time travel, and romance. Eighteen-year-old Marguerite and her 20-something friend Theo travel to alternate realities including Renaissance Rome, an alternative San Francisco at war, and the futuristic "home office" of the evil Triad corporation to rescue fragments of the splintered soul of Marguerite's boyfriend, Paul. As she meets different versions of Paul, Theo, and her family, the heroine begins to question her earlier notions of destiny and of people's essential natures. The protagonist's journeys form a travelogue of sorts, and her descriptions of alternate Earth cities and the ways these settings have changed her loved ones' characters are the strongest parts of the book. The parallel worlds allow readers to wonder how different they would be if they lived in different circumstances. Explanations of the mechanics and limits of dimensional travel are skimpy and a bit forced, but that won't bother fans of the previous volume. Attractive characters, plenty of suspense and danger, and a cliff-hanger ending add to the story's appeal. The characters' age and some sexual situations make the book best suited for older teens. VERDICT Purchase where the first title is popular.—Beth Wright Redford, Richmond Elementary School Library, VT

From the Back Cover
Ten thousand worlds. Ten thousand enemies. One love.
Marguerite Caine has done the impossible, traveling to alternate dimensions with the Firebird—the brilliant invention of her parents, her boyfriend, Paul, and their friend Theo. But she has also caught the attention of enemies willing to kidnap, blackmail, and even kill to use the Firebird for themselves.
When Paul's soul is splintered into four pieces—pieces that are trapped within Pauls in other dimensions—Marguerite will do anything, and travel anywhere, to save him. But the price of his safe return is steep. If she doesn't sabotage her parents in multiple universes, Paul will be lost forever.
Unwilling to sacrifice her family, Marguerite enlists the brilliant Theo to help. The two forge a plan to save Paul and the Firebird, but succeeding means outsmarting a genius and risking not only their lives but also the lives of their counterparts in every other dimension.
Their mission takes them to the most dangerous universes yet: a war-torn San Francisco, the criminal underworld of New York City, and a glittering Paris where another Marguerite hides a shocking secret. Each leap brings Marguerite closer to saving Paul—but her journey reveals dark truths that lead her to doubt the one constant she's found between the worlds: their love for each other.

Love this series!
By Kiki Deister
I absolutely loved the first novel in this series, A Thousand Pieces of You, and this book was just as good. The story is woven throughout the multiverse as Marguerite fights to save both Paul and Theo. And like the first book, this one makes you think about life, choices, and their unforeseen ramifications.
The events of the first novel changed Marguerite, changed her perspective on life and her beliefs about it. Travelling through the multiverse and seeing the "what if's" has opened her eyes to how different choices can lead to vastly different lives. But those beliefs get tested yet again as she travels through more dimensions and finds unexpected versions of the people she loves. Those versions make her question everything.
And much like the first novel, the lines between good and evil are often blurred. Whose intentions are good, causing them to do questionable things? Whose intentions are just plain evil? It is this kind of gray area that makes this such a thought-provoking series. How far would you go to save the ones you love? How far is too far? Is there such a thing as too far? These are just some of the questions that Marguerite has to answer.
The dimensions exist during the same period of time, but it is fascinating to see the different ways in which they have evolved. To think about what that means, in terms of multiverse theory, is incredible. The Russiaverse, a throwback in time. The Home Office, a vision of the future. The New York-verse, an alternate reality. Each dimension has different versions of our characters, making them all ever more complex.
The story and its premise are, simply put, fascinating! I couldn't recommend this more!

I really liked Ten Thousand Skies Above You
By The Blonde Likes Books
Picking up where book one left off, Ten Thousand Skies Above You jumps right into action with Marguerite and Paul in another dimension. Wyatt Conley still wants to use Marguerite to do his bidding, so in order to convince her, splinters Paul’s soul and scatters them across dimensions. It’s up to Marguerite and Theo to find the pieces of her Paul’s soul and restore him. As she travels and meets many Paul in many dimensions, she questions whether she loves every version of him they way she thought she did.
I really liked Ten Thousand Skies Above You, but didn’t love it the way I loved A Thousand Pieces of You. I’ll start with the things I did like. Overall, I loved the story and the pacing. I was engaged in the story from the first paragraph, and found myself eager to find out what happened. There was a lot of action, which made the story fly by, and I felt like I finished it really quickly. I also LOVED the ending and cannot wait to see how the story concludes.
Now, for the things I didn’t love. I felt like there were a few times where I felt that things were being told to the reader but I didn’t feel it, or felt like I needed more information. For example, Paul’s soul being splintered. HOW? I need more information other than “Wyatt splintered Paul’s soul”. I had too many questions! While I liked most of the characters, I can’t say I love Paul. I mean, he’s okay I guess? But he seems so flat and boring! The entire story was spend following Theo and Marguerite, and I can’t help but want them to end up together. I liked them better than her and Paul from book one, but thought my opinion would change as the story progressed…but it hasn’t. Paul and Marguerite’s relationship is another part of the story I felt like is told to the reader without making the reader (at least THIS reader) believe it. We hear so often that Marguerite loves Paul, but WHY? There was hardly any time spent in the first book talking about their friendship or progression to more, and there was even less in this book. I don’t buy it. I don’t feel anything about their relationship, and that’s not what I want from the main pairing in the book!
All of that said, I did like the book and can't wait to see how the story ends!

Nicely done

Marguerite Caine is a perfect traveler - able to travel between alternate dimensions using the Firebird while being aware of her real self as well as the self of the Marguerite she is occupying in the dimension she is in. Perfect travelers are rare and powerful and Wyatt Conley will do whatever he can to get Marguerite on his side. His latest attempt involves splintering the soul of the love of Marguerite's life Paul Markov. Marguerite will attempt to save Paul's soul but to do so will hurt not only her parents but her friend Theo Beck. Still Marguerite will do what she can but the cost will be far deeper than she realizes.
I devoured “A Thousand Pieces of You”, the first book in Claudia Gray’s Firebird trilogy - I was immediately caught up in the story as Marguerite traveled from dimension to dimension - and was eager to read the sequel “Ten Thousand Skies Above You”. Truthfully, it took me a bit longer to get into this book at first as it felt a bit repetitive. However, halfway through the book - around the time Marguerite began to learn the repercussions of actions she took while in other bodies - I became hooked again and couldn’t stop reading until I got to the end of the book. Each dimension Gray has created is very interesting, at times heartbreaking, and I was left at times wanting to know what happened to the Marguerite, Paul, or Theo left behind in certain dimensions. Speaking of Marguerite, Paul, or Theo - love triangles in books can be a bit frustrating for me but I love the twist Gray puts on the love triangle as each Marguerite, Theo, and Paul are different in each dimension. There are some nice twists here and makes for some interesting thoughts about soulmates. To be sure, the travel between dimensions can be confusing at times (it is best not to think too much about it) but there are a few nifty surprises in this book. Gray ends the book on one heck of a cliffhanger and I can't wait to read the next book to see what happens to Marguerite.
“Ten Thousand Skies Above You” is another nicely done young adult novel by Claudia Gray.
